The Indian Premier League (IPL) has seen a major reshuffle on Thursday. Mahendra Singh Dhoni (MS Dhoni) has left the captaincy of Chennai Super Kings (CSK). All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been given the command in his place. Dhoni will continue to play with the team as a player. Dhoni was the captain of CSK from the beginning of the tournament in 2008. Meanwhile, he did not lead CSK for only two years as the team was then banned for two years due to a spot-fixing scandal.
CSK said in a statement, “MS Dhoni has decided to Hand over the captaincy of Chennai Super Kings to another player and he has picked Ravindra Jadeja to lead the team. Jadeja has been an integral part of Chennai Super Kings since 2012 and will be only the third player to lead CSK.
This time the Chennai team retained 4 players including Jadeja and Dhoni. Jadeja was retained by the franchise for Rs 16 crore. While Dhoni was retained for this season only for Rs 12 crore. From this, it was guessed from the beginning that Jadeja could be made the captain. Apart from him, Moeen Ali was retained for 8 crores and Rituraj Gaikwad for 6 crores.
Ravindra Jadeja will be the third captain of the Chennai Team 2022
33-year-old Jadeja has remained with the Chennai team since 2012. He will be the third captain of the CSK team. Mahendra Singh Dhoni was heading the team since the first season of IPL i.e. 2008. While captaining 213 matches, Dhoni has won 130 matches for the team. In between Suresh Raina has also captained in 6 matches, in which Setim won only 2 matches.
The 40-year-old Dhoni has been the captain of CSK since the league’s inception in 2008 and this could be his last IPL. He has already retired from international cricket.
Sunil Gavaskar has also admitted, ‘The way Ravindra Jadeja has matured as a player over the years, the way he has established synergy in terms of his game and the way he plays according to the match conditions, is amazing.’ Web stories
